If you need inspiration to save money today, this will do it. Charlene Salpietra, who owns and operates Express Employment Professionals in Owensboro, Kentucky, went on an absolutely epic shopping spree this week. She went to a local Kroger store and managed to fend off inflation in the aisles. She saved over $1700. You read correctly. She saved $1700. In a single shopping spree! And she left with a truck full of supplies.
Here’s how she did it!
Charlene says Kroger is listing “all of their school supplies and other items 90% off.” She has family members who are educators, and her son is involved in a ministry that helps distribute school supplies to local families who really cannot afford their own. So, knowing that Kroger was in the middle of this massive school supply clearance, Charlene decided to grab some shopping carts and strike out on her own. Supermarket sweep!
She loaded up two shopping carts which, in her own words, were completely “overfilled”. In total, Charlene had 302 articles. She says, “One of the Kroger employees was so excited about how long my receipt was and he couldn’t wait to see how much I had saved.”
So how much did she save exactly?
Yes! $1706.34. Exceptional!
The Kroger employee says it was the largest dollar amount saved he had ever seen.
After completing her transaction, Charlene rolled her carts outside and loaded up the truck!
She says the shopping trip was a huge success, not just because of the amount of money she was able to save, but because of the many families who will benefit from her transportation. She says, “We will be able to do a lot with these items and some will be donated to a local nonprofit.”
And, Charlene was certainly willing to extend credit where savings credit was due. “Thank you, Kroger! »
