Apple reverses its decision to require strict verification on the online educational store

Just days after introducing a new verification process for its online educational store Unidays, Apple appears to have had a change of heart.

Apple removes Unidays verification

The tech giant has started requiring all teachers, students, and others in education to verify their status before getting a 10% discount on all Apple products. Previously, no verification was required.

On Friday, January 21, Apple removed the Unidays verification requirement from its educational store. Unidays is a service for students and teachers to get discounts on Apple services and products that can be used in school and for other educational purposes.

According to MacWorld, it’s unclear whether the cancellation of the verification requirement is temporary or whether the tech giant has decided to no longer enforce the strict verification process for educational purchases.

However, Apple still has strict purchase limits on its educational store. For example, customers can only order one Mac Mini, one desktop computer, or one laptop per year. Purchases of iPads and accessories are limited to two products per year, according to Apple Insider.

Apart from the education store, Apple also requires customers to verify their education status through Unidays to qualify for the discounted student plan on Apple Music. The requirement for Apple Music is as it is.

Back to university promotion

The move for a stricter verification process came just weeks after Apple announced a “Back to University” promotion in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Brazil, according to MacRumors.

The tech company is offering students and teachers in listed countries free AirPods with the purchase of an eligible iPad or Mac. Customers have until March 7 to take advantage of the promotion.

Eligible devices include MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac Pro, iMac, Mac Mini, iPad Pro and iPad Air.

Purchases come with free standard second-generation AirPods, but customers can request an upgrade to third-generation AirPods or AirPods Pro. However, upgrading will incur additional charges.

iPad and Mac models can be purchased at a reduced rate at educational stores in Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. Apple also offers AppleCare+ protection plans at a reduced rate of 20%.

To get the free AirPods, customers will need to add an eligible iPad or Mac to their carts, where the option to add the AirPods or upgrade to third-generation AirPods will appear during the checkout process.

Discounts are available to current and newly accepted university students, parents purchasing on behalf of students, and teachers and staff at all educational levels.

Registration and verification of registration through Apple Unidays is required. Educational discounts will only be available for a limited time, both through the online store and through currently open Apple retail stores.

The “Back to University” program is launched every January, and it is similar to the “Back to School” promotion that is launched in Europe, the United States, Canada and Mexico in the summer, some months before the start of the school year.

Customers can expect the same offers when “Back to School” rolls out in said countries in mid-2022.
