Virginia woman finds large snake in bag of popcorn at grocery store

A Virginia woman grabbed a bag of popcorn while shopping at a grocery store and discovered a hole in one of the corners. As a good citizen, she threw the bag in her cart to bring it to the front of the store so that it would not be sold to someone else.

It turned out to be a rather poor choice.

Shortly after putting the bag in her cart, she noticed a snake nonchalantly slithering out of the hole.

“The stuff was out, and you know, I was like, oh, well, hi!” said Kimberly Slaughter, according to WTVR.

Slaughter explained that when she brought the cart to the front of the store, the snake emerged from the bag and slithered out before returning inside the bag.

Nor was it a small snake. She said once out of the bag it was the full length of the cart.

Slaughter remarked to WTVR that she had a baby at home and worried about what might have happened if she had come home with the snake-filled popcorn.

“I have a baby and he’s just starting to walk,” Slaughter said. “So imagine if he was a little older, or if my niece had gone and said, ‘Hey, I want some popcorn’ and grabbed that bag and it bit her. That’s not safe. . It’s not healthy.”

Definitely not safe or healthy. You could say absolutely disgusting.

As for the store, it will conduct an investigation to find out where the snake may have come from.

“We have no idea where this came from,” said a store manager. “We are investigating to try to find out where it came from, but we have no other indication that there might be others.”

Snakes seem to be appearing in food at an alarming rate right now. Last week, an airline passenger found a snakehead as part of his in-flight meal.
