A grocery store in southwest Calgary is expected to remain closed on Friday as crews continue to assess damage from a large truck that crashed there the day before.
However, police have now released details of the wanted suspect in connection with the incident.
Officials say the truck, which was stolen, was traveling at high speed around 2:35 p.m. on August 18 when it lost control of 11 Street SW.
The driver got out of the vehicle and fled before police arrived.
The store was closed for the rest of the day and, in a statement on Friday, the company said the store would remain closed for cleaning.
Meanwhile, the three store workers who were injured in the crash are now discharged from hospital and “recovering well at home”, store officials said.
The Calgary Co-op thanked emergency crews for their quick response and the community for their understanding.
“A heartfelt thank you to our team members and customers in Midtown and the surrounding community for their kind notes of support and for their patience as we work to restore the building,” said the Calgary Co-op.
A City of Calgary structural engineer was dispatched to the scene to assist in the aftermath of the crash.
SUSPICIOUS DESCRIPTION
Calgary police told CTV News in an email that the man wanted in connection with the incident was in his 30s and had black, shoulder-length hair and an average build.
“At the time of the incident, he was seen wearing black jeans, running shoes, shirtless and carrying a red backpack,” officials said.
There are no photos of the suspect at this time.
