Work crews complete repairs to the heavily damaged main entrance to the Binghamton Boscov department store.
The Court Street entrance was closed for almost seven weeks after a car slammed into the gates and the surrounding brick structure.
The repair project was delayed until the materials needed for the job were available.
Thousands of dollars in damage was caused when a vehicle slammed into the building at the corner of Court and Water streets around 3:30 a.m. on August 21.
Binghamton police did not release information about the circumstances surrounding the accident or whether the woman driving the car has been charged in connection with the incident. Witnesses said they believe the driver was not seriously injured.
Once repair work began, it proceeded in phases. The bricks around the entrance were replaced first. New door frames were put in followed by the installation of glass.
No final estimate for the store repair project has been released.
A man was busy finishing the project on Friday afternoon. He expected the entrance to the store to be operational again on Saturday.
Workers said the goal was to get things back to normal in time for Monday, when large crowds are expected downtown for the annual Columbus Day Parade.

Today, these parks are spread across the country in 25 states and the US Virgin Islands. The land around them was purchased or given away, although much of it was inhabited by natives for thousands of years before the founding of the United States. These areas are protected and revered as educational resources about the natural world and as spaces for exploration.
