Tesla adds new CCS adapter to stock for US customers

Tesla has added a CCS adapter to its store for US customers. The adapter offers a charging speed of up to 250 kW and can be used on third-party charging stations. The CCS Combo 1 adapter may not be compatible with all Teslas. Tesla owners are therefore encouraged to double-check to make sure it is before purchasing.

Last year, Tesla added the CCS adapter to the Korean market compatible with Model 3 and Model Y. Tesla launched a CCS adapter for Model S and X in 2019. He also said that there are plans to introduce it to the American market “soon.” The CCS adapter allows Tesla owners to use other charging locations outside of their home or Tesla Supercharge networks.

Tesla said the new adapter is compatible with most new Tesla vehicles, but some vehicles may require an upgrade to ensure functionality with third-party CCS stations.

“We recommend verifying that your vehicle is using the latest software available before logging into your Tesla Account to verify vehicle compatibility,” Tesla said on the website.

Tesla also added that maximum charging rates may differ from those advertised by third-party stations.

“Most third-party stations are not capable of charging Tesla vehicles at 250 kW. Tesla does not regulate pricing or the charging experience at third-party charging stations. Network membership is usually required at third-party charging stations. For details on charging practices, please consult with third-party network providers directly,” Tesla said.

Tesla plans to add retrofit eligibility for Model S and X vehicles as well as older Model 3 and Y vehicles in early 2023.
