The former Macy’s store in Towne Square Mall is being sold, confirms Jim Estes, the real estate agent handling the sale.
But he said it would take another 45 days before he could release the buyer’s name.
I bet on Ellis Entertainment, the company that owns Ellis Park in Henderson.
The company said in October that it plans to build a 60,000-square-foot entertainment venue in the Towne Square Mall area that will include historic racing machines, simulcast betting and a sports-themed restaurant.
The former Macy’s store has 80,000 square feet and seven acres.
The retailer left Owensboro in January 2020.
That summer, a group of local investors purchased the building, which is not part of the mall, for $1.25 million with the intention of turning it into an indoor sports complex.
But the city, county and Owensboro Health decided to build a new floor at the Owensboro Convention Center to create an indoor sports complex.
Jeff Inman, general manager of Ellis Park, said simply: “We are close to closing a deal. The holidays have slowed down some items.
I guess we’ll know more next month.
