Leclerc enters the French convenience store market

The supermarket chain has installed its first “supermarket” in the center of Draguignan to extend its footprint and format throughout the territory.

French supermarket chain Leclerc has opened its first “mini-market” in the town of Draguignan, expanding its formats to compete in the local convenience store market. With more than 200 square meters of space for the new site, the brand is exploring a new way to stay close to its customers.

According to a report by the local news site Var Martin, the shop opened last Monday in the Var department, located in the nation’s southern region. The company intends to bring its offers closer to its customers in this new format by maintaining the same prices as its larger counterparts.

“We wanted to offer a new concept to our customers and above all work as close as possible to the city center while keeping the prices of supermarkets”, specifies Loïc Faraco, manager of the Leclerc agencies in neighboring municipalities, in dialogue with the site.

Following the latest ranking by UFC-Que Choisir, the French consumer association that ranks the accessibility of stores, E. Leclerc establishments were in the lead thanks to their affordable packages. The report, quoted by French media The Local, analyzes national retailers, which excludes Aldi and Lidl from the rankings as being German companies.

The supermarket chain was ranked the cheapest in the latest ranking thanks to an average cost of €348 for its basket. On the other hand, the most expensive brand in France was the Casino group, with a total average of €408.
