During the LEAP Technology Conference Riyadh, the Saudi Arabia Digital Academy signed an agreement with Huawei on the development of local talents. However, the Saudi Digital Academy is an initiative of the Saudi Ministry of Communication aimed at building digital capabilities in the kingdom.
The cooperation of these two entities aims to sponsor 8,000 Saudis to learn information and communication technologies in centers accredited by Huawei. Registered students will specifically study artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity and 5G internet uses.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Arabia is seeking to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on oil as part of its Vision 2030 initiative. On the other hand, this cooperation is the first step in terms of improving the Saudi-Chinese relations.
The memorandum signed between Saudi Arabia Digital Academy and Huawei reveals that trainees will receive certificates and employment upon participating in the program. Another goal of the partnership is to train people to expand Huawei’s services in Saudi Arabia.
Apart from that, this partnership might anger the US as it warned Egypt against collaborating with Huawei and other Chinese companies on the development of 5G internet networks.
In addition, Huawei recently opened its largest overseas flagship store in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, which covers an area of 2,000 square meters with a minimalist design.
On top of that, Huawei rotating chairman Guo Ping announced at the LEAP conference that the Chinese tech maker plans to build a cloud region in Saudi Arabia. Currently, Huawei Cloud is located in countries such as Singapore, Bangkok, Thailand, Johannesburg, South Africa, Mexico City, Mexico, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Santiago, and Chile.
